My practice is informed by a number of educational and personal experiences. Prior to entering the massage therapy profession, I completed a degree in gender studies. This, as well as my personal experience as a queer woman, galvanized my interest in participating in women’s and LGBTQ healthcare. My practice is a queer positive space, and you can expect proper pronouns and gender neutral language around the body and its functions. (Yes, that includes the perinatal experience).
I graduated from Sutherland-Chan in 2015, and have practiced in various settings, including a busy downtown clinic, and an outpatient mental health and addictions clinic. At this time, I participated in extensive psychosomatic training. While this is not something I use directly as part of my role as an RMT, it provided me with a deep understanding of trauma informed care.
My practice was put on pause after the birth of my first child. Inspired by a wonderful and empowered birth experience with the help of a number of skilled birth and body workers, I have since taken courses in infant and pregnancy massage with Trimesters, and participated in a six month birth doula mentorship with Sasha Padron at the Centre for Growing Families.
Shortly after my maternity leave, I was diagnosed and underwent treatment for a rare blood cancer. For me, accessing touch therapy was a welcome and necessary space away from the physical and emotional impact of treatment and recovery. My experience in the patient role has given me new perspective and a deeper commitment to my role in complementary healthcare.
After the birth of my second child, I returned to massage therapy with the opening of my home studio.
